fun fact: currently the 48th Ward is in the top 5 Chicago wards for new construction homes permitted this year the last time this happened, in a full calendar year, was 2023 and before that I don't know see more permits data here: www.chicagocityscape.com/permitsanaly...

On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the owners of the United Center, alongside many electeds, broke ground on the 1901 Project, a $7 billion plan to turn 55 acres of parking lots on the Near West Side into a music hall, hotel, retail, open space, a new CTA Pink Line station, and roughly 9,500 homes. In total, it might be the largest private development in West Side history since the stadium was built in 1994. Bulls president Michael Reinsdorf and Blackhawks chairman Danny Wirtz jointly own the United Center.
